Another new MB, still wont boot!!

Intel D865GBF MB
Intel Celeron 1.7
256 meg ram
450 watt PS

I had the exact same problem with the same kind of MB, so I sent it back for another. The computer won't boot up! It turns on, but does not get to POST. I tried a MSI mb and it worked fine

On this Intel MB, I double checked the wires for HDD LED, PWR LED, PWR Switch. None of the LED lights come on.

I need help quick! This computer is for my dad.

Did you try booting it up outside the case? what kind of ram are you using?

Have you double-checked the "clear CMOS" jumper? You might also put it in the "clear" position and try booting...I have encountered incorrect documentation shown on motherboards in the past (the PcChips m925 being the most recent).

PC 2100 256 and I just tried a PC 210 512, both are known good working ram. I took out the Intel MB and put the MSI board in the lights come on the case and it starts to boot up.

I just put the Intel MB back outside the case, same thing. no boot up.

"Did you try booting it up outside the case?"

It could be shorting out on the case(standoff or back of case) Place it on a phone book and with just ram, CPU, and video KB/Mouse and power hooked to it try to boot it up to see if it will let you into bios. You and short the power jumper for a sec to turn the mobo on.

WOOHOO!!

Jagnorm,

That did it! I removed both jumpers and it booted up. I am rebuilding this system and left the jumpers alone. It even shows correctly as the Master drive on the hard drive diagram.

What does this do to correct it?

Removing the jumpers alow the drive to be selected one its own via the motherboards choice. Its like using the Cable Select option, except the motherboard chooses weather its a master/slave instead of the cable locations.

try setting the jumper to cable select and have the hard drive as the only drive on that cable. Maybe try swapping the hdd to the other ide location on the mobo? Double check you board for abnormal grounding in the case, also check the pcu breaker switch and slide it to 115, or 230(?) which ever your board handles. About the LED lights...make sure they are in the proper location...(sometimes truning them upside down does it)

Truckie

Hope this helps...
