IE shuts down at secure sites

I built a PC for my sister for Christmas (I know, I know, big mistake). Anyway, we were having a problem with secure sites. Every time we went to a secure site, IE would shut down. I reloaded the newest modem drivers and I thought the problem was solved. Now it appears it's happening again. Whenever she logs in to a secure site, IE immediately shuts down.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Isn't there a way to repair IE?

what OS are you using? is it IE version 6? on dial-up, cable? you could try reinstalling IE, just go to microsoft.com/ie. so you go to a secure site and it just totally closes IE? I have had problems accessing secure sites but never with IE shutting down when you attempt to go to them. i would just make sure your settings are okay in IE properties but imnot sure if that would be the problem. make sure under advanced you have ssl 2.0 and 3.0 checked and i would put privacy and security at default levels. i would reinstall IE but i'd see ever other people have better ideas. sorry im not much help im just curious as to if anyone else knows whats wrong.

Almost sounds like a security certificate problem. System specs (at least the O/S and IE version) would facilitate troubleshooting.

Fresh install of Windows XP. Full updates, all Service Packs. IE6. Office XP, full install.

PC specs: PIII 1GHz, 1GB PC133 RAM 15GB main drive and 30GB secondary drive. 56k dialup through internal Zoom voice/data/fax modem. Modem has fresh install of latest drivers.

All other sites work fine. Some secure sites work, some don't. It's always the same ones that don't and it always crashes right after entering username/password. AFAIK, it's still on the default settings.

Did you try to use the drivers that came with the card??? Or, un-install and let XP find drivers on the net?????
