DVD ROM verses CD ROM

I want to build a new computer in the near future. I plan on a CD/burner, a 750mb zip drive, Floppy drive. Question is would a DVD rom be a good match to a CD R/RW. I may, once-in-a-while play a DVD. I would have no use for a DVD burner.I all ready have the case It is a micro atx. I've already picked out the MOBO. I'll have room for two 5.25 sized drives and two 3.5 drives. USB add-on drives,,,,, NOT.

Apples to oranges my friend...really not comparable IMHO. If you ever want to burn a CD, you have to go with the CD-RW.
What is most important to you?

Not sure why you WOULDN'T want a DVD burner (most burn CD's as well), but barring that, I would go with a CDRW/DVD-ROM combo drive(assuming your processor is 350mhz or greater).

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...talog=5&depa=1

50 dollars

Definately seems like your best option to me... its almost a neccesity to have cd burning capabilities to backup your data... and in my opinon cd-r's and cd-rw's are better than zip disks b/c its optical rahter than magnetic... and its alot cheaper

IMO
deffinatly a seperate cdrw for burning cds (much faster than dvd for burning though holds a lot more than a cdr)
seperate dvd burner for tranfering vhs to dvd also good for large backup
I would scrap the zip drive ( IMO not reliable and a thing of the past)
floppy drive still good to have for emergency boot disks or flashing bios

True Zip drvies and disks are costly, but I like the 750 Zip. Iwas just asking if a DVD rom would work with a cd burner.
