No Working Onboard Sound

Well, my current onboard sound isnt working. I've tried plugging in my headphones (Audio 90s) into another computer to see if there were defective headphones, and they still work. My microphone jack was working before, but also isnt working now. When I boot into safe mode, I tried using them, and windows gave me this error:

"Bad Directsound Driver"

er, help?

*Motherboard is Asus P4P800 Deluxe Motherboard

Try reinstalling the sound drivers.

I reinstalled the ones that came with the mobo, and the ones on the mobo's website (both the same version).

look in device manager to see if there are any ! , ? , X marks listed could be that the drivers need to update the driver for a marked item from DM to get it going.

To add to MDS's comment...you might also check to make sure onboard sound is enabled in BIOS.
