Win 2k3/IIS 6.0 FTP and WEB site

First, I'm new at this so I ask for you tolerance of any dumb questions. First problem: Using the default FTP site with IIS 6.0/WinServer2k3 - When I test it, I can download files, but I can't upload a file. I get an "access denied" message. I've gone back and checked all the permissions. I'm pretty new at this so I'm probably missing something. Can anyone help with step by step instructions or what I need to check? I've set it up to require user name and password, not anonyomus.
Second problem: How do I direct outside users to the website I've added instead of the default site. If entering a header is the answer, I need the exact syntax and what is the header value?

I'm running Win Server2k3 with IIS 6.0 ona Dell Power Edge 400SC with 512MB RAM and a 3.2 ghz processor. This server is only for the FTP and WEB services

There is little or no "how to" instructions from microsoft and if there is, they are incomplete or leave many things out.

Also, any recommendations on books that will give solutions or how to instructions for everyday setup and services would be appreciated. I hate to take other people's time up with this kind of stuff, but I don't know where else to turn.

Thanks!
