CD-ROM turns into piggy bank

So I get home and find that my son figured only inserting cd's into the cdrom was severly limiting its capabilities. So some change got inserted also.

This is an auto-load (doesn't have a tray) cd-rom and it still works but the cd won't eject.

Is it possible to open these things to retrieve the cd and my pepsi money. Is it possible to do this and still have it be functional? Safe too. I don't want my son putting in a cd and him getting lasik surgery.

As always...thanks.

My guess is that you can just pop off the front bezel without too much trouble. I've done this with CD-ROM drives, Zip drives and floppy drives. Just be careful to not break off the plastic tabs that hold it on.

Good luck, and may the force (but not too much) be with you!

I don't want to know how that happend

CD-roms aren't really dangerous to mess around with, except the possible risk of the CD's exploding from the velocity of turning, something shorting out and burning the house down, or Compaq planting a bomb inside to make sure NO ONE voids the warrenty. Other then that it's perfectly safe. Without any prior knowledge of their insides I opend one and fixed a non functioning unit.
