Dream System...

I'm going to Fry's Electronic in a few days, and I don't have a budget limit. The only thing that I'm limited on is information. So tell me, what's great out there? I'm going from bottom to top, meaning, 21 inch flat panel to a 3ghz cpu. Can you please list a recommended system for me in details. I'm looking for great speed and graphics, that's all..

I'd buy something that works (and works well) and save your cash for something else.. Unless computers are your only passion, then by all means - spend.

I'd definitely go for 768 or 1GB RAM.

1 gb ram is on the list already...should I go ahead and try out AMD over Pentium? I've been using pentium all my life...most of the stuff I'll be doing is designing and video editing..

if i had unlimited money.......id buy and athlon 64 fx. pretty expensive but the best out their right now. however it hasn't matured yet and there will probebly be problems so.....i suggest that u go with a p4 3.2C 800 mhz, ABIT IC7-MAX3 motherboard, 1 gb of OCZ ram (or some other good brand name ram), 160 gb SATA hard drive (ur choioce of brand), ATI radeon 9800 XT, Audigy 2 zs, good case and power supply (maybe something from antec). did i forget anything?

EDIT: btw, have fun shopping and building, i find that this is the best part of getting a new system.

I love my Barton, but if money is no object, I'd go with the P4 3.2
800, and the 9800XT also, but with RAID.

RAID 0 -two hard drives work as one to double your speed
RAID 1- one hard drive mirors the other, for back up

*Intel P4EE is better than the AMD64. Its just harder to get. If you can get the EE, then by all means, GET IT!

*try to get raid 0 array

ATI 9800XT

Audigy 2 Platinum ZS

Logitech Z-680s

Coolermaster Wave master

Gigabit Ethernet Card

The indiDVD multi-dvd format writer, and a cd-rw to do direct copies

2 (or 3) WD Raptors *yay for 10,000 RPMs) (get the bigger version)

Multi-memory card reader-thing

CRT - go for a good Sony Trinitron or Samsung (i think) Diamondtron

LCD - Something good. I heard Sharp ones were good. Bigger is better

Logictech MX Elite Duo (MX700 + Elite wireless kb)

That really fast Canon Printer (forget the name)

Some 1337 games

This is gonna cost you alot.

*I'll post more when I think of more

*On a side note, you may want to wait a bit until buying/building this computer. The new chip from intel is comming soon, and R400, and NV40 (i think) are comming soon. Wait till late feb/march to get a computer. You'll be a much happier man (or woman)
