HP ScanJet 3200c - horizontal lines, greenish tinge

Was actually given a HP 3200c scanner which uses a pass-through parallel hookup (between the box and the printer). New step was finding the driver and application software (a massive 40MB bloatware file from HP's driver and patches dowload ftp site).

I should note that initial attempts did not work, error messages saying scanner not found. Apparently this was a known HP issue since they also had a patch to download.

Both having been loaded and installed we ran the first test scan. All subsequent scans exhibit the same error. Horizontal, alternating bands of light - dark. The scan also had an overall greenish tinge. The initial scans had bright green vertical line artifacts which went away after the first few attempts.

You would think 40MB's of code for a simple scanner would give high resolution and faithful color reproduction. On a side complaint, the intergrated photo editing software is extremely rudimentary -- something you would have expected to fit on a single floppy. SIde commentary off.

Any suggestions as to what would be causing the horizontal color bands? Additionally, what would cause the tinged color?

Most importantly, what are the remedies?

Thanks,

KJ
