wats the function of an router, will it be better than using a switch for netwoking sharing of internet?

its a firewall, shares out internet to many computer (i.e at a home)

Most home routers have 4 port switches attached anyway.

to sum it up the main feature that is different is the router is a firewall

when useing a router, you have no ports open the the internet.
in a sence you are not even there

the isp provider will see only one ip address, that of the modem and the router will be privite and not seen from the internet
