AN35N unknown cpu ?
I just finished building my xp1800+ 133 fsb, an35n ultra, vantec aeroflow, geil pc3200 512 x2 build.
It runs great, stable at xp2200 settings, 33c and 39c full load.
Only prob is it says unknown cpu then 2200+ on the post screen.
In aida32 it says the same then in the next screen it fully recognizes it.
It doesn't recognize the mb maker either.
Any suggestions?

If every thing is working fine, I wouldn't worry too much about it. |

I'm not really, this cpu did the same thing in the previous ecs k7bza mb and worked fine.
I'm pleased with the temps, no case fans yet.only dual fans on psu and a pci slot fan for the radeon 9100.

Try a BIOS update. I recently purchased an AN35N Ultra and a Duron 1.6 CPU. And on the post screen i got Unknown CPU 1900+. I went to shuttle's websited and downloaded the latest BIOS along with the windows based flash utility. It was very simple and now i get Duron 1600 on the post screen.
I am loving my AN35N though. |

So now I've updated the bios to the latest version, AN35S00L, loaded through dos and it recognises it as a DURON. Still able to overclock ok and stable. aida32 recognizes it as a duron & athlon.
sandra says duron. maybe I should leave it alone.

I hate to ask but are you sure you got an XP cpu and not a Duron? The Duron 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8GHz are based on the Thoroughbred B core with only 64kB of L2 enabled.
What does Sandra say is the clock speed of the CPU and how much L2 does Sandra say the cache has?
It is possible that you may have gotten a defective XP processor. If you are not sure, pull it out and check it again to make sure it says Athlon on the chip and not Duron.

Most likely needs a BIOS update to recognise the Thoroughbred core. (if that's what it is)
Same stuff as with the barton etc.
It shouldn't be a problem, but if it bothers you: http://www.shuttle.com/hq/support/do...AN35/N%20Ultra
Get the new BIOS (11/12/03)

Thanks for the replies, guy's.
I'm sure it is an athlon at least it'd damn well better be. I bought it from newegg as an athlon 1800+ retail in 2003.
BB
I really don't mind the question as I'm starting to doubt it my self.
Sandra and aida both say it has 64 kb L2 is that poss or are they both not reporting correctly?
Thanks for the link, it was already installed.

You can also try WCPUID to see what the processor is. I dont know though. I would seriously pull the CPU, clean off the thermal grease and check it again. It should say Athlon right on the core. If it does, then RMA the chip for a new one. But you need to act fast before your 90 day warranty is up if the CPU is OEM version. If it is a retail version, then you have 3 years to return it.
Once again, i would strongly recommend pulling out the CPU and checking it. If your BIOS is up to date, then what sandra reports should be correct. On my system, AN35N with the latest BIOS and Duron 1.6, Sandra tells me my CPU has 64KB of L2 cache.
PS, i just re-read your reply and saw that it is a retail CPU. Still, contact newegg and get it replaced.
Good Luck!!

An update, I took the cpu to a local store gave the guy a 6pack of sierra nevada he checked it out on a system that had an xp1800 in it. It turned up as an unknown cpu w/64k of l2 cache.
So it is arriving at AMD today to be checked out.
Hopfully they come to the same conclusions and replace it.
