New 120gb hard drive.. need help

Hi,

I've just bought a new 120GB Maxtor 7200rpm hard drive and I'm trying to install it as slave. However when I installed it and set the jumper to slave and boot up the PC, the drive isn't shown in the "my computer" window and I don't know what it's drive letter is or anything.

I'm currently using a SiS 645 intel motherboard and it already has a 60gb hard drive isntalled as master and I'm using WinXP Home.

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong or not doing to make this work?

Any help will be appricated, thanks.

Do I need to format the drive before using it? if yes, how and what will it's drive letter be.

Yes, it will need to be formatted if you haven't done so yet. Which OS you using? If it's Win2K/WinXP you can format the drive right from Disk Management.

Also, you might want to set the jumper to Cable Select rather than Slave... these newer drives are usually set that way by default.
