router problem. help!

ok i have a d-link di-604 router and its giving me some trouble. when both of my comps are using the internet, it will dissconnect both of the comps (a message saying that the local area cable is disconnected comes up) and then it will reconnect about 1 second later, this is a really unknowing problem because im usually gaming with my bro on the other computer. does anyone know why this could be happening? i have tried to update the firmware but when i got to update it through the routers built in software, it just says that file (the firmware update one that i downloaded to my hd) is empty. WTH?? please help me out as im getting really unpatient with this thing.

ok nevermind about the updating of the firmware. i was using mozilla to browse through the router's software and for some reason it wouldn't let the router update the firmware. but used IE and updated the firmware without a problem. however, the disconnecting problem is still occuring.

any suggestions?

do you have any eletronic devices near the wireless router?

how far are the computers from the router?

actually the computer is right besides the router. also, someone on anotehr board mentioned that it could be due to heat, so i turned it on its side to let it air out and it hasn't done it since. but im not sure if it will stay this way.
