beeping sound every 2 seconds

I have windows 98 se. I try installing more memory and now I get a beeping sound every 2 seconds when I start the computer. The computer turns on but I get nothing. I then took off the install memory, and turn it back on and still nothing but the beeping sound. I think i mess up my computer. Can someone please tell me what can I do?

Welcome to TechIMO!!

Continuous beeping is generally a sign of a memory problem.

Sometimes video.

So when you put the old stick back in it still beeps. Did you put in the right memory module for your system?

You might try and re-seat your video card as you may have dislodged it when putting in the memory

Continuous Beeping: Memory or video problem

The video card might not be in full contact with the slot it is in.

The video card may have been knocked a bit. Remove it and put it back in securely.

Also, I have had motherboards that you dang near had to get a hammer to get the RAM module all the way down and seated in the socket.

Personally, I would try removing the RAM module (the original one) and then put it back in..this time mashing it down into the socket HARD...until the latches on each end latch themselves...do not help..they will latch themselves without any assistance when the module is fully seated.

Ideally, all RAM should be installed while the motherboard is outside of the case and sitting on a flat surface like maybe a phone book etc. to give extra support to the motherboard and keep it from bending..which Can cause the circuit traces to break.
