Help installing PCI IDE card

I am running win XP with four devices, 2 CD's and 2 HD's. I want to add a third hard drive. I have a PCI IDE controller which can add an additional four devices. With XP wouldn't that have had to been installed when installing XP, you know at the screen that says additional SCSI cards hit F6? It is not a SCSI though, but somewhere I though I read it acts as one. Anyone know how I install this card. Really don't feel like spending a few hours experimenting if someone has already done it. Thanks.

I don't know how this works in XP but my controller cards are recognized as scsi devices during installation and boot up. They are PCI ata133 cards. I use Windows ME.

I would think you install it just like any other PCI card, shut down the computer, discharge your static, unplug it, and plug the card in then reboot. Although, you may have to install the drivers first. XP should recognize the card and away you go...

If it's on a PC with an OS already installed, install the card, then the drivers. If it's a new install and the hard drive is going to be on that card, you'll need to do the F6 thing during Windows setup and use the driver DISKETTE.

I belive that on mine it says to install the drivers first and then install the card and move the drives to it

do not put any optical frives on the controller card.

do not mix hard drive brands on the same port of the controller card

I just installed a Promise controller in my machine this evening. I
shut-down, switched the power supply odd but left it plugged in. I
waited a few minutes to discharge the MoBo. Installed the card,
booted up and let the plug-n-pray do it's thing. Followed the wizard through it's thing. I then shut down plugged in the goodies, booted up checked the device manager. All was well. All done. Didn't take long. I'm using Win2K, Xp should work as easy.
