Password Protect?

I have a website hosted by addr.com and I am planning to upload some files and directories to this website. I am going to have a one page index of all of these files (PDF) and i want to know which is the easiest way to password protect both the one-page and the directories themeselves?

See, The files are important documents for the lawyers taht i work for and we want to make them available on our website, but only to our lawyers... thats why they will have their own username and password to enable them to access a page on the website which will provide them access to these PDF files.

Can I do this for free?

I'm really know to website security. What I dont want it just to password protect the website that has links to these documents becuase then theoretically, couldn't you just type in the URL address of the acutal file and download it without ever going through the website?

thanks for your help.

P.S. I was looking at something called "PassMasterFlexPlus" and it looks cool. Would I be able to use this?

http://www.technetguru.com/passmasterflexplus.php

Thanks again!

If you have MySQL and PHP you should be able to use it.

Winos2Mac,

Addr.com's online website management interface has a password protect section for the files and directories..... You should be able to do what you need from that online control panel.

Login here: http://www.addr.com/panel/

Can you really setup your own stuff in a hosted webspace? I'm not aware you can.

If they offer some kind of authentication, they probably don't offer other ways.

I would just setup a ftp-server for the pdf files.

how can i go about making a system where you can automatically browse files in a directory. so as soon as they're uploaded, it will reflect that on the website? Some kind of database i guess. does anyone know of any good scripts for that?
