ECS K7S5A processor question

I am not able to find the processor specifications for the ECS K7S5A. I want to upgrade my Duron processor to a "XP" processor and I want to make sure the processor will work. What is the fastest processor that I can install, XP2500?

It should work with any processor with a 266 or 200mhz FSB. I think 2500 might be the breakpoint between 266/333, so you'll need to get a proc with a 266mhz FSB.

Correct on the cutoff,
"AMD Athlon XP 2500+ "Barton", 333 FSB, 512K Cache Processor "

"AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 266 FSB, 256K Cache Processor "

Newegg has the XP1800 on sale for $49.00 shipped, getting tempted to buy it.

What is the better core,why?
Thorton or Thoroughbred ( this is on the XP2400).

I built a friend a PC with that mobo and an 1800, and I ran that mobo with a 2000. Worked well for me. I ended up using it in about 4 PC's that I built. No trouble from them.

I moved on to a Dragon KT400, because I wanted onboard RAID.

I am thinking of upgrading the daughtes computer, used for games and occasional web surfing. I use the computer occasionally for it is in the upstairs livingroom and I have to go downstairs to use mine.
I heard there is a new upgrade on the motherboard, replaces the AGP slot, for the AGP on the video cards slots?

I have another question regarding CPU fans. I have another system with a XP1500 overclocked to a XP1700 with a noisy Thermeltake 6CU+ fan. What is a quieter fan that will accomplish the same cooling effect? THis is on a Epox 8KHA+ motherboard.

If it's a non-pro K7S5A (board revision before v5.0), then stay with the Thoroughbreds. BIOS has not been updated for Thorton or Barton cores, so you might be pushing your luck with those.

Given adequate power supply and cooling, XP2400+ Tbred works very well on K7S5A.

Only the verrrrrry earliest revision v1.0 boards sometimes don't do Athlon XP.

regards, Peter

It is one of the earlier version boards, I will have to check the specs later when I get home.
Peter M, send me a "PM" I have a question to ask of you.
