I don't think those can be turned off. Look around for a small vertical bar off to the side where they might be hidden. You should be able to drag them back onto the screen. Sorry for the vague explanation. I don't really know how to describe it. You may also need to right click in the grey area at the top and uncheck "lock the toolbars" to be able to move them around
I am running Win98SE with IE 5.5 (I think, I cannot check as the help menu is also gone.) Okay this is how it happened and bear with me on this. I was doing some right clciks on google searches and then noticed that when the new windows opened it would not show the file edit view etc menus. Also the globe symbol was bigger than normal.
If I opened IE from the desktop as normal everything would be okay.
Anyway I went into the toolbars menu to see if I could change this. I am not sure what I clicked on but I turned off the file, edit view, etc menu options. Now I cannot get them back again. I do have all the tool buttons though such as stop refresh home etc. I have tried to right click within the header to access the tools menu but no luck.
I restarted the computer and then IE and the missing bar was for some reason to the right of the address bar. i dragged it back where it should be and now everything is okay.
