New AMD 64 Build

I have a chance to build a fast PC for my dad. I want everything to be top of the line and I think I want to build it around the new AMD 64 3400+ processor.

If you had to build this machine, what...

Motherboard
Memory
Hard Drive
DVD Burner
Case
Power Supply
Video Card
Sound Card
Monitor
CPU Fan (I'm still afraid of water cooling)

would you buy?

$3500.00 Limit

what will this machine be used for?

right now i say the 64 chip is not really something you want to use because there is no real os that will take advantage for some time (yes this is a beta out, but it still in the works)

Don't look at this as a practicality issue. The power of this machine will most definitely be wasted on web surfing and e-mail. He just wants the fastest PC on the block. The 64 will run 32 apps and when 64 stuff starts coming out he won't have to upgrade.

exactly...i really don't know why everyone brings up the lack of a 64bit os as a reason to avoid buying the amd64. people seem to be ignoring or overloking the fact that the amd64 is AMD's alternative to the high end P4's.

while the amd XPs (bartons) are cheaper, the amd64 was designed to take on the high end intel chips and to excel.

f1oored:

Build your dad a stable, proven computer and spend the money wisely, with all due respect.

I just recently completed a build which included:

> Asus A7N8E-X Deluxe motherboard
> XP 3200+ Barton (400FSB)
> PC3200 DDR (1 GB)
> Matrox Parhelia (Multiple monitors)
> Maxtor SATA 160GM HDD
> Pioneer DVR burner / player

Spend the money on a nice sound system and really great monitor(s).

Good luck.

Saving money isn't my goal here. I would only be willing to move to a faster CPU, an FX maybe, but 3200+ is not an option.

I also think I want to use SATA and Raid together if possible.
