wine(x) help

i dont know exactly if this is a problem with wine of with the game

but i have wine and winex installed.
diablo2 is listed on the winex workes page.
but when i try to run it it says my cd isn't in the drive. i think it used to give me this problem in windows also. but after 3 retrys or so it would get it. but this one dosn't get it.

any ideas or sugestions?

simple things first!
is the cd mounted?
is the proper device list in ~/.transgaming/config ?

I had the same problem with WineX after installed the 1.09 patch for Diablo II. It would work fine until I installed the patch, at which time it would break :-/

All that seemed to work was a reinstall, and belive it, it was an exhaustive process One thing you could do is check out the forums over at transgaming, they have the developers over there looking, and quite a bit of going one there.

Make sure that you explicitly mount the cdrom though before starting diablo II, dont count on automount to pick it up.

i was kind of letting drakes automount do it...
but i'll reinstall later. after i try actually mounting it.
hopefully it'll run without using the videotest. and then run decent enough.

Edit:
one install later + mounting by hand = a no go
guess i'll uninstall it and try again in a bit.

hmmm, i tried it again the other day.
doing a complete
mount
run the installer
umount
mount
over and over and over. got it to install. passed the video test.
but it still insists that the cd is not in the drive.

Pardon me if this is a stupid suggestion, but if it is, just discount this post.

Isn't there some way you could get a No-CD patch for the exe and then it wouldn't check to see if the CD was in or not?

Like I said, it may be a stupid idea, especially since I really don't know anything about winex or diablo II.

HTH,

David

i'm getting tempted to make an iso of my LOD cd and then mounting the iso (asuming i could figure that out.) but i dont know if that would work. and running low on harddrive space.

That could work if you got winex to see it and recognize it Bob.
Did you check the transgaming forums?

david, you cannot play online with an altered executeable. Well not on battle.net

i did a search, and the only thing i saw was not being able to use game.exe to run it. when it should be diablo ii.exe to run.

and i noticed that in the screen shots people use winex to run it. but i can't. i have to use wine. i think it might be beacuse i'm just using a cvs build.

i'm fairly sure its installed beacuse i did compile it. (see my other thread) and i can play starcraft.

forgot to say that i'm reinstalling it again to try it again.

edit: i'm sure i have winex now. when it spits out an error i get
Quote:
[bobomega@melfina Diablo II]$ wine Diablo\ II.exe -w
Unknown option '-w'

WineX CVS
edit edit:
i did some more searching and i found something that i'm going to try.

edit edit edit:
still a no go. it just dosn't run at all now no more stupid cd error, going to put it back and make it spit that error at me again
