Heat sink paste question

I'm going to be putting a vantec aeroflow heatsink on my xp1800+ pretty soon & was wondering if the stock paste is any good or not.
Anybody tried it ?

It depends on what you are going to be doing with your system. If its gonna be overclocked and running hotter than normal, then you should probably splurge and get some Arctic Silver.

i used the stock paste when i installed my AThlon proc and no problems encountered yet till now. just maintain a relatively low temp on the processor. mine's running at overclocked speed with temp at 41C.

the tests I have seen, the good stuff is 2 or 3 degrees lower than silicone. Most people don't need it unless your temps are getting too high from overclocking. When I clocked my Bartom2500+ to 3200+ it ran @ 42C with silicone, so no need for silver or ceramic

One 3cc tube of Arctic Silver 5, or 5cc tube of Arctic Silver 3 will run about $10, or less. After spending so much money on all your other components, why skimp to save a few dollars using generic heat sink paste?

A 3cc or 5cc tube will last literally dozens of heat sink installations.

Given the investment in all the other hardware, to skimp on thermal paste is being "penny-wise, and pound-foolish" IMO.

also consider ceramique. i'm using it on my system. it's supposedly easier to apply then other types (seemed pretty easy to me) but i dont know because i've never applied any other kinds.

Yeah AS5 is the best stuff out right now. I still have a nearly full tube of AS3.

i've use arctic silver. and i have to tell that whenever when i see reviews of other compounds which say they're easier to apply then i have to laugh. how difficult is it to apply AS?...after all you only need tiny amount anyways...not like you're applying varnish or something....
