Compaq Presario - Couple questions?

Fellow Members:

Neighbor's Compaq. Secondary Disk FIFO Controller yellow ! ... "Either not working, driver not installed, blah blah." (Running Win98se Compaq Install CDs).

I have run into this before on regular PCs and cannot recall the cause. I'd like to dump the HDD and reinstall but CDRom on Secondary.

Ideas? Bad cable ... ?

The box worked fine last evening, but neighbor woke up to problem with wireless NIC and began "trying things."

Any idea what to hit to enter CMOS? Not del ... went to Safemode.

Two Comments ...

One: I fixed the problem - replaced CDRom.

Two: Wow, Compaq's are not bad computers, but those who design them (or rather order them to be designed) so only Compaq techs can work on them really burn me up.

There. I deleted my original language and replaced it with nice, flowery non vulgar language.
