Kids Reverse DNS Compliance

First post on this site..

Okay I did some search's on the forums to try and dig some information up but couldnt find anything that explained this issue in great detail.

Basically what I would like to do is make sure that when someone does a reverse lookup against my domain name that
it will answer correctly and allow the email from my server to pass through without the query failing. As it is now, there are a few places that I email and they get bounced back with

"Error 554 <something.com[192.168.2.2]> Client Host Rejected, Access Denied"

Here are NSLOOKUP results.

NSLOOKUP something.com "Name: something.com Address: 192.168.2.2"

NSLOOKUP 192.168.2.2 "Name: server.something.com Address: 192.168.2.2"

So what should I tell my ISP ?? Ive read on Microsofts site that I would have to do something about "IN-ADDR.ARPA" ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers

You want a reverse dns lookup

if you do a ping -a <ip> you'll find that the IP resolves to a hostname correctly.
if it doesn't you got a problem.

You may have to request that your IP be given a reverse lookup value.
There are some websites that will deny access if your IP doesn't resolve back to a domain name.

Most of our issues with DNS seems to be the "provider" not resolving the name. Usually a call (or two) to to the provider will clear this up.
