new HD from the store. I made my cd rom my boot drive.
XP begins installation and then locks while installing drivers with 35 minutes left.

edit:
I have my new HD set in IDE1 and the cd rom set in IDE2
the Floppy is in its slot but is not reckognized in the bios.
I have new HD set as single/master and my cd rom set as slave.

Had this same problem a week ago... try setting RAM timings to default failsafe speeds. You can tweak settings again once you get WinXP loaded.

Which motherboard you have?

A couple other things to try: connect the CD-ROM to IDE2 as master, instead of a slave of the HDD on IDE1 (you'll get better performance from the HDD that way), check to make sure the floppy cable is on the right way.

kt3 ultra atx
i believe i have the ide cables facing correctly, pink is facing the open side of the case (HDD and CD ROM). Floppy IDE is facing opposite.

Nothings working, it just keeps locking, i even tried swaping out different pieces or ram.
This sucks.

Hmmm... try running Memtest86 and see if your RAM is good. Most of my Windows XP install problems were due to bad RAM.
