Reformatting?

Recently my computers been acting a bit screwy so I decided that I want to format my hard drive and give it a fresh re-install of Windows XP Professional. However I love all my settings in the current Windows setup. How can I keep my settings and re-integrate them to the new install without all the hassle of resetting it in the new install? Sorry if I'm talking gibberish. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!

If you have a CD or DVD burner, you can use the " files and settings transfer wizard" to put all your settings into one folder and burn it to CD or DVD. After the re-install of XP, you can then replace the default installation settings with your backed up settings.

Use the 'File and Settings Transfer Wizard' found in 'System Tools'. I've never used it, but it makes the most sense to me.

I've never done a "dirty install" w/ XP, so I don't know if you keep your settings if you did it that way or not.

i dont know if the file transfer wizard is such a good idea it may transfer something that is making it act up

i would just burn any files you need on a cd and remember your settings

but it wouldnt hurt to try it you could just format again

Do you have a spare HDD you could throw in the machine to copy the files to?

Nope, but I believe I can copy the settings to a folder and burn that to a cd. I'm gonna give it a try and let you guys know how it turns out!
