bf 1942 issues

ive got BF running with the latest patch and the newest nvidia drivers. i get serious frame lag, like maybe under 10 fps even on single player. ive turned anti-aliasing off, and lowered the game detail to no avail. Ive checked other programs in windows and have killed just about every process i could w/o crashing the system and still have the same problem.
here are the system specs:

windows xp
direct x 9
nvidia geforce 4 ti 4200
amd athalon 2400+
crucial 512mb pc2700
msi kt3-ultra aru
maxtor 80mg 8mb 7200 rpm
msi onboard sound (crystal audio?)

now this whole deal worked just fine a few months ago. all ive changed was the case, removed sound card and the hard disk, and re-installed windows xp.
i appreciate all help...

In game audio settings maybe? For me I had to set audio to HIGH or it would stutter. Figure that out! Try it. Since I did that mines run smooth as can be. Even with lots of players on and me serving lan party! EA is starting to be pretty pathetic in reliablity though.

Yea i get no cd errors and invalid cd keys all the time.

Try turning software acceleration off in the options. Or go dl the net framework patch and some other things from windows updates. Games have been known to hang if you dont
(ex. MAFIA)

and the newest nvidia drivers
roll back to the previous drivers http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_45.23.html

the newer 5x.xx are made for FX line of cards, and they will drop your frame rates. Also, what resolution are you running? I find that with my ti4200 800x600 runs smoothest, but i usually have it set to 1024x768 on medium detail.

Also, turn down your sound, it is auto 44khz, bring it down to 22khz

I find that most people have problems with the sound. And the driver issues are more prevailent in CoD, but im pretty sure they carry over to bf1942 as well. When i did 3dmark2k1 i found my scores dropped about 500 when i went to the newer drivers, so i just went back.

yep, what shae said.
Asking your onboard sound and cpu to do 44khz sound is more than likely your bottleneck.
