Ok I got a linux os but I like my windows since most of my stuff runs on windows only. Now I see I can partiton my hard drive into 2 sererate sections I got an 80 gig total. I would like to have 15 gig's for linux the rest for windows but how easy is it to turn it back into 1 disk If needed. I was wondering if formating the disk would do anything after I partition it.

well basically once you partion it 65gigs to windows and 15gigs to linux you can format the 15gig while in windows without an issue but the partion will stay there. To turn it back into a single partioned disk you'd have to reformat and partion the entire drive wich means lossing all the data. However there is really no need to do this as using it with more than one partion doesn't create any issues

just get partition magic 8 for $22.95 and use it to resize your windows C: partition to 65gb (i'm assuming it takes up the entire drive). after that i think you can make a linux partition with PM (by selecting creat new parition and using a linux partition type like ext2) or MAYBE with the linux install cd BUT ONLY IF it allows you to create it's partition from the unused hard drive space. i got PM8 from that site and I used it to resize my 120gb hd and it worked great. the interface makes it extremely easy too.

when you want to go back you can format the linux partition and then merge it with the windows partition but the bootloader will still remain so you may want to back up the mbr before you load linux
