driver issue

Ok i keep installin the correct display driver for this computer im working on but each time i put the correct one on it just goes to a black screen if i choose anything over 16colors. I have got 4 different files with the same driver on it and all do the same, this computer is a old compaq that can only handle windows 95 on it, would you recommend just puttin in a used pci graphics card and sein if that will work because im thinkin thier must be something wrong with the internal one..

well it seems you have exhausted the possible options wrt the correct driver installation. but have you tried cleaning your registry from some invalid or corrupt entries. those things can cause system problems too.

anyways, you can try the pci card. but make sure also that the internal video is properly disabled. and that no drivers from the int. video is still installed.

Monitor being recognised? PnP or listing its name. Is it useing the DDC info?
