printer problems

have a hp 610 color jet printer hooked up to my new comp, (asus a7n8x mobo, 2500 barton proc) printer was working, now it doesn't, I can get it to print a test page by holding in the paper feed button on the printer, but other than that it's not responding, I've checked the cable to make sure it's secured tightly to printer and comp, any one have any suggestions on how to fix this or diagnose it? thanks in advance...

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the printer.

If you still have problems and think it may be a communication issue try manually adding a printer on the LPT1 using a Generic Text Driver and see if it will print a test page.

Make sure you set a parallel port mode (in the system board's BIOS) that is compatible with that old printer. If in doubt, select "standard", not EPP or ECP.

Send a message via ICQ to Shawn711
Also, make sure it's set as the default printer in your printers part of the control panel...........I know adobe acrobat and some other programs add "virtual" printers (for lack of a better way to describe them) to your printer folder.... one of these may have become set as the default.
