Placed another order from Newegg
I just completed my order for "phase two" of my current computer upgrade. Last August, I upgraded my mobo and cpu. Today, I ordered a new mod case along with some extra goodies. I went with Aspire's X-treme Alien silver aluminum case. Going with a green and purple light/color scheme. I also picked up a Maxtor SATA 120GB drive to supplement my 2 IDE drives. Next month, I'll add another SATA 120GB drive and possibly go RAID.
Here's a question. Because of the increased speed of the SATA, I would like to make it my primary drive. The docs on my ABIT IS7 mobo showed me how to do this. I'm running Windows XP Pro. When I upgraded hard drives in the past, I used Maxtor's utility disk, and copied my old drive onto the new. This is my first SATA drive, and I'm wondering if I can do the same with the SATA? I also have a program called Drive-2-Drive which works the same way. It just clones all the contents from one drive to the other. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Did a rush order with Newegg, and expect my goodies by Thursday or Friday.

My guess... and please, with no personal SATA experience, so take it for what it is worth... if SATA drives require no special drivers and are run solely through BIOS settings, then you may get lucky, especially given the utility you have. If not, you get to mess around with XP's "Hardware Hive" and things tend to get messed up.
Please post back, as I anticipate making similar changes early this year.

Thanks jmichna, I will keep you posted. I just checked my Newegg order, and it's a 160GB SATA drive. Shipped this afternoon. They were sold out on all the other sizes. Cost was $123. That's pretty sweet!

I just checked my FedEx routing numbers, and my stuff just arrived in Baltimore early this morning. Even the stuff that had to come from California! Delivery time is listed as January 9th, but maybe FedEx might deliver it today. Newegg rocks! I placed this order on Tuesday afternoon.

jmichna guess is right on the BIOS. SATA is under onboard PCI device, and it disables the secondary IDE slave at the same time.
My NF7-S even sets up the SATA RAID before XP

Gait_Keeper, I have the TB Santa Cruz too. Great card. Picked it up last spring when CompUSA had it with a nice instant rebate, which brought it down to $20.00. Newegg is about the only online vendor I use anymore. They rule!
Stroyal, my ABIT manuel gave really good instructions on setting up the SATA in a number of configurations. If I have any problems, TechMo will be the first to know

I got everything today, but the SATA 160MG hard drive, UV case light and USB printer cable. It's still pretty early, so it still might get here today. This case is AWESOME! I'm going to run over to the automotive store and get some looming. I'll swap out my main components from the old case and get them in the new case. I'll be ready for the hard drive when it gets here. Newegg rocks!
