Gaming Somethings going on with this computer

Hi!
I've had this problem for a while, and it's gotten very annoying.
The computer has suffered random lockups (2min-5Hrs after startup), win 3.1 errors (XXXXX program has caused an illegal operation you may be able to continue if you select ignore or if you click terminate the program will close) win 98 errors (blue screens, invailid operations that I can scoot over to the side and continue working.) win xp errors (Microsoft IE has encountered a problem and will need to close, we are sorry for the inconveniece and will open another page for you, please send this problem to Microsoft. these I can also move to the side and continue my work.) I have SBS&D, Ad-aware, (Startup scan goes to 4,000 and skips all the way to 14,000 and skips to 20,000 before continuing, it also locks when I do a manual full scan.) Pc-Cillen 2000, AVG, and Zonealarm, zonealarm has just recently been installed and has been blocking quite a bit of stuff.
PC Specs:
AMD XP 1700+
Asus a7v333
256 MB Ram
Win 98SE
I sure Hope that you can help, because I've been at this problem for a long time. And I'd like to be able to solve the problem instead of having to scrap the hard drive.

Try running Memtest86 on it.

You didn't post your HDD mfr, so I can't give you a link for HDD diagnostic software specific to yours.

Hi.
I tried the memtester and it would lockup when it got the numbers to reach the top of the screen.
I'll try the western digital downloads next.
Thanks

Hi!
I tried to run the WD diagnoses program and it said I would have to find an earlier version of the program, I guess it's because of it being an 8.4GB. I got the Memtester working, it tested 6 times and it did not find any errors.
I had thoght that it would be a virus because the omputers been giving me win 3.1 and win XP Errors, last night it locked up 5+ time in a peiried of less then an hour. This computer is rarly used for games, and every time that it boots it pauses and says that it's updating files, it also won't shut down most of the time.
I hope this helps.

This is getting ridiculous!!!!!!!!!
The problem has gotten worse and this notice from Zonealarm has popped up a couple of times when I am disconnected, The firewall has blocked an internet broadcast to your computer (DHCP) from 0.0.0.0 (UDP Port 68
This happened right after this popped up (But it's happend by its self a couple of times)
Coreldrw
this program has performed an illegal opertion
and will be shut down.

if the problem persists, contact the program
vendor.

Stack dump:
Now this window wouldn't go away after clicking on the close botton 20+times and it would stayup even though the program had ended, I noticed it's not like the normal errors that stop everything else until you respond, I could just slide it over and find out what was going on, I checked the memory usage and it was at 97% at idle (With the error window open), one more thing, the Ctrl+Alt+Del wouldn't work during then.
Ad-Aware can't do a custom scan with everything enabled without locking up, and just before it locks AVG comes up with this:
AVG Resident Shield
Virus
Suspicion: unknown viruscom.exe is found in file
C:\program files\lavasoft\Ad-aware 6\cache\textcon.exe
Enable access?
Yes No Heal
Now there is no "Textcon.exe" that I have been able to fiind especially in that location.
Please, HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
