This is interesting news. But why would the typical AOL user, who thinks AOL=the internet, want to do this? If you've got enough saavy to want to use the internet without AOL, you shouldn't be using AOL at all.

mainly the geeks out there who want the fastest speed availble (using the aol software degrades the peak speed some) will use this feature, and those who just need to check a webpage real quick. Also, it will be ideal for gaming online, thus, u gain more system resources and get better game performance, because u dont need to have the aol software running along with your game. and this aint spam. already had 42 views in the last 5-10 minutes. (versus other threads, where theyve been there for days and got 5 views). this is important news to the aol users out there. and its not availble in the plain public.

I don't know why any broadband user keeps AOL. Messenger is a free service and the other AOL services aren't worth $15 a mo. Besides, I never got so much junk email than from AOL.

Ask my wife and she'll tell you why.
Really, AOL is typically used by the internet novice, many of whom live in households that use broadband (like me!). So as much as I'd like to save the $10/mo, I'm not dumping AOL any time soon.

I use AOL broadband, and I think the extra features are totally worth it. Very customizeable, lots of exclusive things only to broadband members. Email layout and management is great. Radio@aol, all-in-one welcome page with latest news customized to ure specs (show latest games news, tech news, business news, etc), very good spyware protection against everything (gator, xxxtoolbar, etc), Friendly Names;Instead of seeing the persons screen name on your buddy list, you can put in a customized name. Instead of CoolJoe1447, you see Joey. GREAT Customized spam controls. (ability to block all aol advertisements too) and theres a customizable block-list for spam. (You type viagra or mortgage and add it to the list and it will foward all emails with them words to spam folder). <But, I never get spam, as im very careful as to who I sign up to and who I give my email address out to. > There is just soooo many things I love about aol. (not to mention amazing 630kb speeds <126 times> faster than 5kb dialup) much better than just internet explorer . Theve really improved a lot over the last year and a half.
