Kids Memory Questions

Hey I got a memory question, i currently have (2) 256mb of ddr sdram pc2100 occupying 2 of my total 4 memory slots. I want to upgrade to atleast 1GB, now if i buy (2) 512mb of pc3200 and stick those two in the available slots, will this work. If not opinions on whether i should just get rid of those 256's and just throw in 2 512 pc3200s for 1gb total or buy (2) 512 of 2100 and have 1.5gb total.

Thanks

Adam

I have sticks of PC2100 extra lying around and I usually put those into my new builds until I can afford to buy better memory. I noticed a big difference when I swap out my PC2100 for sticks of PC3200 on both my P4 and Athlon comps.

It depends on if the processor can utilize the FSB speeds, like an athlon xp barton core from 2500+ to 3200+.
If it's a pentium 4, more than likely you would bennefit from the faster memory.

If you have an athlon xp with a 266mhz FSB, then you wouldn't need faster memory.
I would suggest the PC3200 if you have the money.

agree with jeordiewhite. having a pc3200 can save you much if you want to upgrade later on to faster processors.
