I prefer maxtor, just cause I like the maxblast3 software it comes with.

I think they are both pretty good manufacters.
However I recently purchased two 160GB Seagate serial ata drives with 8mb of cache, they are on raid 0 and are running great, the 16mb of cache with both drives does help quite a bit.
So I voted seagate.

Maxtor is more quiet, but Seagate seems to handle bus overclocking better. If you are looking to overclock your system bus, then avoid Maxtor, IMO. I've run Seagate (E)IDE drives up to 40mHz (200mHz fsb on KT333 systems) with no problems. Other folks have reported issues with Maxtors at mild bus overclocks.

If running at (near) default bus speeds, then let $$$ be your deciding factor... just about all of today's drives are very, very good.

Well I personally dont like either one. But between the 2 options I would buy seagate over maxtor. Seagate drives have never failed me, but on occasions, maxtor drives I use for customer builds have had troubles. I personally use only SAMSUNG, and WD hard drives. They seem to have a better quality to them. I have never had them fail and never had to RMA either. So theres my 0.02$
