how do i burn an avi to cd???

What friggin program do i use to burn an avi into something that is actually watchable on tv? I don't have a dvd burner, but my dvd player is supposed to be able to support just about everything. I have tried Nero, nti cd maker 2000 plus, alcohol 120%, clone cd, cdrwin, and I still can't burn an avi to disk. When i try to burn the .avi with nero, it gives me an error saying bad start code. Other times when i try to set up the burn software, it says unexpected file format, and then nothing....i have the utility WinMpg video convert, tried to convert to everything that was available there (took ages and ages). Still nothing is working. Getting errors that the file has a bad start code, writing fails while it is being encoded, or it just doesn't play in the machine. Is there something simiple that i am missing????

Hey bud,

I haven't done this in a while, but I used to use a program called DVD2SVCD .. it took a DVD or you could use an .avi .. and run it through TMPG and a coouple other program to pull out sound and video them re-encode it.

You could re-encode it as a SVCD, VCD or MPEG file. All of those would be alble to be burned to a CD for watching in a DVD player. http://www.dvd2dvd.org/ is there home page.. TONS of info there.

Hope that helps.

Yeah your dvd player wont play avi.You need like Undeadlord said to convert it to SVCD or MPEG.Most new DVD players will play SVCD's,but they all dont,so I would recomend finding out if yours does before wasting your time converting the file.

Btw I've bruned .Avi's with Nero, and No problems.

i have the utility WinMpg video convert, it will convert an .avi to a .mpg1, .mpg2, .vcd, .dvd, any kind of file to DivX and then back to avi. now this doesn't seem to be working, i have tried letting nero encode the avi file, and get an error. i have tried to let nero encode the newly encoded files, and get error. i have tried DVD2SVCD and am having similar trouble. i am sure that the dvd player will play these files (it has already). so now i am stuck......??

Tried your results in a friends machine by any chance?
(sounds as if you have no results so far)
All your probs are while encoding?

Could be conversion related, WinMPG? might wanna check on it---

I think u need to encord your file over... and like double check to make sure ure following all the right steps

find a guide that tells you how to make an avi into a proper DVD or VCD OR SVCD file

i personally use TMPGENC to convert the files from AVI to (S)VCD
then i use the progrom VCDEasy to burn it
usually if somethign doesn't work it's the encoding

go to www.dvdrhelp.com
