Tom's Hardware did a article on Athlon64 chipsets, http://www.tomshardware.com/motherbo...105/index.html

Just incase you wanted more info on chipsets supporting the Athlon64.

I am not sure about that video card you have selected. From what others have said, SE versions of video cards are good to stear clear from. If you want to keep your price for a video card under $200, then i would suggest an ATI 9600XT, but i am not sure if the drivers off of ATI's website will work in a 64bit environment.

Other than that, looks like you will be having some fun. Have you thought of which distro of Linux you are going to use?

Thanks, I read some articles about chipsets/motherboards and decided on that one because it performs good + good overclocking potencial, something ill probably do when I feel conftable.

Im thinking of running gentoo, I testes it for a bit and I liked it ( also has good community support) but my current PC is too slow to be compiling stuff all the time.

The Zalmans are quiet, but not the most efficient coolers, so if you do get into overclocking be aware. I happen to like Geil ram... have had good experience with it, even overclocked (PC2700 @ 200mHz, albeit at 2.80 vdmm). Albatron mobos seem to have been receiving favorable reviews of late (2003)... I've not owned one, nor have a I read anything regarding their 64-bit compatable boards.

Overall -- taking into consideration blubombers comments -- I think you have most stuff positioned very well for a new system.

Im aware of the zalmans, but when I decide to overclock if I need a better hs ill get a new one and put the zalman on my old pc to shut it up !

Now about the video card I was triying to decide between the one I selected and the 9600XT, base on the facts I have read I went with the nvidia card, Why you guys recommend the ati?
