I use the free version of ZoneAlarm coupled with a netgear router that has a hardware firewall.

ZoneAlarm by itself though works well for me.

zonealarm is very good. i used to have NIS and it gave me problems too. zonealarm is much easier to configure the way i want.

ZA two thumbs up!
44143 intrusions have been blocked since install
2370 of those have been high-rated

get zonelarm pro.

i was using the free version for 2 yrs, finally decided to buy the pro version...MUCH better than norton firewall.

the scuttlebutt that i've seen in a few message boards recently is that NIS doesn't block certain types of spyware w/the default settings out of the box. but this is what i've read...not my own experience.

anyway, i say why buy norton when zonelarm (#1) or sygate(2) is available.

I enjoy sygate more over ZA, However one i've always liked but cannot use on windows server 2003 is black ice.
It is nice and secure on paranoid mode with autoblock.
Besides having application controls, it's fairly simple and works great.

ZoneAlarm

Tho I use an older version as IMO the newer versions are slightly crippled (slider bar in security settings) with add on popup blocker and I'm sure other tweaks.
