hello all i just finished building a new sys. my old one was p-2 400 new one is p4 2.6ghz/w internal lan both have xp pro installed? where do i find the settings for internet explorer/ie6 so i can transfer them to my new sys. ithought i saw a thread on this forum once with diagrams and such but can't find it now any help would be appreciated thanks merv

Another option is to go to the original PC, open IE, on menu bar, go to Tools.... Internet Options... Connections tab... LAN Settings (incl Advanced... settings). You should be able to just duplicate whatever settings you see here on the new machine.

This will not, however, do anything regarding your new PC's Workgroup (or Domain) setting, and new PC's name. this yoyu can do through Start... Settings... Control Panel... System... Computer Name tab... and edit the Network ID and review the section reached via the "Change" button. The new PC can't have the same name as the original. To avoid problems, do not use spaces in the computer name.

Since this sounds like a home network, you are probably using workgroups rather than domains. Make sure the new PC uses the same workgroup name as your other PCs.
