Doh ! Transfer PC files to an G4 iBook ?

I am looking at aan Aple g4 iBook which is > 5 lbs., small 12", with Panther for about $1,100.

Hard to find a PC ultraportable for that price, an upgradability is not an issue..

But --all my Software is PC (maybe some is cross-platform)--

So how would I live in an MacX OS World ?

Can Appleworks read Word for example ?

Need good info....my first Lappy was junk.

This seems like Bang for Buck --except for the OS and Apps issues.

Most MS Word will transfer but you will have to reconfigure some code. As for other apps they will not without some major tweaking and it is not worth the time. Panther is a killer OS and it is compatable with just about any printer or still/video camera. iMovie is great. Still like my PC though.

So Front if I transfer, would I first need the Mac version of Word in Office MacX to do it, or will Panther's Wordprocessor open M$Word files?

Also, formatting is important in Word Docs. and even more so in Corel Wordperfect. If the formatting has to be redone, that is a big-time problem.

The IBook 12" is well-priced, but I'll lose any savings if I need a Office Suite anew, and it's looking in that direction.

The Site GZ3 linked seem to have another "interlay" type Proggie a few days ago...

My advantage, however, is if I can get beyond Word, the Proggies that come with Panther are quite extensive. Most of our files are docs. I can live without anything else for now.

Wadda you think ? Is it viable ?
