Cd Burner Problem

Hey all,
I bought a Artec 52x burner, and it is opening at random times, I am wondering if this could be because of a driver issue? I know its not anything silly like spyware or something like that, because I have used it on two different freshly formatted machines. Is there any hope that I can fix this? I do not want to have to buy another drive. Does not read anything either, if i put a disk in, it just spins up then spits back open again. No matter what I do this things keeps on opening up. any advice?

did it exhibited the exact same behavior on both systems? did you buy the drive oem or retail? if retail was there a driver disk included? from what i saw on google this drive is an ATAPI drive so it shouldn't need drivers for windows. to me it sounds like a dead drive.
