AGP Graphic Aperature?

My system specs:

Asus A7V333 MB 1017 Bios Revision
1024 Megs PC2700 RAM
AMD Athlon XP 2100+ (Palomino)
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128 Megs)

My questions:

In my bios where it says to set my AGP Graphic Aperature, it has several choices: 4/8/16/64/128 Megs. I have no onboard integrated video. What should be the correct setting? Any and all comments is appreciated!

It used to be 1/2 your system RAM but I have been reading a few places where that's not true.

I'd say do some benches w/ it at 64MB. Change it to 128MB and do the same benches. If they're the same, put it back to the 64Mb and forget about it. If the 128MB is better, leave it at that.

All in all though, I have all mine set to 64MB and prolly won't change them unless RobRich tells me to.

64MB would be appropriate for your system.

The Definitive BIOS Optimization Guide should give you a lot more info. (scroll down to AGP Aperature.)

Nice link -rp, I've linked to it a few times myself, just didn't feel like doing it again.

Like I said, the definitive answer will be in you performing your own benchmarks and deciding what you like. The BIOS guide(s) are just that, some guides to get you started.

As a side note, if you're ever interested in overclocking, feel free to contact me. The A7V333 was my first overclocking board, and it worked great!

it shouldnt really matter if you put 128 or 64. the agp aperture is the extra memory that is reserved on your system memory if your videocard's memory fills up (i.e. due to large textures). if you have a lot of ram to spare, then it shouldnt hurt to set it to 128.
