MP3 Ripper - Which is the best?

I'm looking for a mp3 ripper that will rip from CD or from wma formats. The ripper should also include the tags when the songs are ripped and/or give me the option to edit the tags.

Any suggestions?

And yeah, and I want a free one.

Ditto...check it out here.

Rips music CDs with hi-performance CD-ripping and encoding. Converts files from one format to another. Burns audio CDs. Copies 'Copy-Protected' CDs. Reads audio from badly scratched CDs. Downloads and uploads disc information from/to freedb. Supports volume normalization, fade in/out, etc. Supports formats such as MP3, MP4, OGG, Windows Media Audio, and etc
Another good one is CDex, very easy to use interface and entirely free!

Also try out Exact Audio Copy.

It's definately the best for making perfect rips. However, you might want to avoid setting the accuracy to the ultra high settings with a heavily scratched disk. Ripping in that case can take 48+ hours! For normal usage though (non-burst mode 7X ripping speed) you can still get a perfect rip from it.

There's a program called "Advanced MP3 and WMA recorder". It also works if you have plugged in a stereo to your computer and area recording cassettes, LP records, etc...

http://www.xaudiotools.com/

It's not free but it works quite well.

Just like samwichse said, EAC is the best.

I've used CDex in the past. I think it uses LAME under the hood too. These days I find myself using iTunes.

Like samwichse and OuTpaTienT said... Exact Audio Copy is the best and - it's free!

It can be a little challenging for new users but if you want the best rips possible, EAC is the #1 choice.

What's the opinion on Nero? Doesn't that rip?

As far as I've ever seen with nero, the only ripping it will do is as wav files or image files on the way to a CD copy.
