Memory Upgrade

Hi I have an IBM x31 and I just bought 512mb memory through Crucial. Is it okay to use the original 256mb from IBM and the 512mb from crucial together? Or will it cause any problems?
Thank you.

it should be fine but they will run at the slower speed if your original memory is slower but that shouldnt matter if you are not overclocking...which would be hard to do with an ibm anyways

or there might be something specific about your computer that i am missing but it wouldnt hurt to try

Welcome to techimo. What is the max. ram your machine will support? As long as the 512+256 is within the max and both sticks are the same type , should work.

I Dont think it will cause any problems. My friend is running two different types of ram in his rig and its running fine.
Im not the most experienced here but I see no problem.

Welcome to the forum!

It should be no problem to just add the 512 to the original 256...unless of course it only has one RAM slot...I suppose most laptops have two slots though.

The only SLIGHT possibility would be if the larger (512) ram needs to be in the first slot where the 256 currently is....thats the way some olddddddddddd motherboards used to be...but I sort of doubt any of them are like that now.

Either way it wont hurt anything if it wont work together....it just either wont boot or it wont show the full memory amount...but it should work no problem

the x31 supports up to 2gb of ram

provided you bought the correct memory type, you should not have any issues.
