What is the "new K7S5A"

So what do you all think the new ECS K7S5A board is? By which I mean a dirt cheap, stable board with a ton of features and high performance that has achieved a somewhat ubiquitous status due to the combination of such?

I was just wondering because the K7S5A is a bit... er... old to be doing new builds with (and doesn't support 333/400 fsb athlons either).

So what is the "new K7S5A?"

Sam

Hey Sam --

I picked up and installed one of the new K7S5APro boards about a month ago and set it up as a [FAD] cruncher.

It was very unstable with the original BIOS. Once I installed the Cheepoman BIOS, it was stable and OC'ed beautifully. Unfortunately, I'm still running PC133 SDRAM in it, but I have a stick of PC2100 DDR to install in it as soon as I get a chance.

For a board that I only paid $54 for, I'm pretty happy with the crunching its been doing.

Ha, well you don't have to convince me that the original is a good board, but what about newer boards (with newer chipsets)?

Surely someone's got an opinion on that.

I don't know about the L7S7A2, I think the day of the SiS 74X chipset may have come and gone.

The Shuttle board sounds pretty good, lean (has most things you need, nothing you don't), mean (nforce-2 ultra 400 chipset), and fairly cheap (63$ at newegg, shipped right now).

How does shuttle's quality/stability stack up to ECS's, or for that matter, any other board maker's?

Anyone else have any diamonds-in-the-rough?

Maybe I'm just talking to myself, but how does that Shuttle board compare to the Biostar board pointed out here?

They are both great boards. The Shuttle AN35N-Ultra supports Dual Channel memory. That and the $ difference. If you want dual channel then the Shuttle is the way to go. Both are great boards at very good prices.
