IE missing colours on visited sites

Greetings all,
Up to 10 minuites ago, every site/page I had visited turned to the designated visited colour (in this case red). Now it does not change colour (stays blue). I have cleaned out the temporary internet files and still the problem is with me. I have NOT deleted the history folder as this will cause all of my visited sites to be re-set to there original colour (ie blue) and i don't want that. I have just done a system restore (from yesterday) and still have the problem. I had this 6 months ago but cannot remember what I did to rectify this. Please can anybody throw some light on this problem? Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards.
Rad

That's why. Deleting Temp Internet Files gets rid of the fact that you've been to the site.

I thought that was the history files? By deleting the temp files means that from the moment I 'deleted' them onwards I would get a 'red' visited colour indication. What appears to happen is that when I visit a site now there is no indication i have been there. It was 'blue' before I visited and blue after. Hope i did not confuse the issue. many thanks for your reply.

The history is stored in several index.dat files, one for each day/week/month, they are deleted by IE each week/month. But there is another index.dat under \history\history.ie5

from the site http://www.purgeie.com

This one is used to store 'Visited' URL names, date and time stamps. This is the data used by I.E. for its AutoComplete function and controlling the highlighting of embedded links on the displayed Web pages.
