Problem reading CDROM on GA-8SQ800 mobo

Just recently built a machine for a friend using the GA-8SQ800 mobo from giga-byte. He is now having problems reading any CD put into the cdrom. Also he is unable to boot form any CD at the BIOS.

Have tried multiple CDROMS and different IDE cables and primary and secondary. In windows the CDROM drive shows up in my computer. But you are unable to open it.

Any ideas on whatelse I can try? Thanks!

Welcome to TechIMO!

Have you tried loading the BIOS defaults?
Power on the computer, and press the <Del> key until the BIOS setup appears. On the menu, try "Load Optimized Defaults" and see if that works. (You might also try "Load Fail-Safe Defaults")

You chould check the jumpers on the back of the CD drive. If the drive is "slave", then set the jumpers to "Slave" (and if 'master', then set to 'master)

Also, if you aren't using an 80-wire IDE cable, try that! On newer drives, a 40-wire IDE cable will not work!
