Scanner Question

I am looking for a scanner to scan 35MM film.

My question is, it seems there are two different types of scanners that can do this job for me.
1) A regular scanner with a film strip adapter
2) A dedicated film slide scanner.

I would like the largest resulting scans with the highest quality.
What I have been able to find confuses me. The regular scanner with the film strip adaptor is ~$150. 48 bit color with something like 6400x3200 DPI.
The dedicated film scanner is 48bit, but only like 2400x3200 DPI and it costs $100 more!

Will the film strip scanner give me better scans even though it is a lower DPI?

jkrohn...
take a closer look at the scanner specs and see if the non-dedicated scanner's resolution is "interpolated" (mathematically derived/generated based on rules-driven software) rather than true (optical) scanner capability. That may be where the difference lies.

An interpolated image is "okay" but an optically-obtained image will be sharper.

Maybe compare the non-interpolated capabilities?
