Copying digital audio through Audigy ZS 2 PP?

Hello,
I just got an external Audigy ZS2PP. I have a DAT deck hooked up to the optical input of the Audigy box. I can play DAT's through the box just fine, but when I try to record audio tracks into wav files, I get only silent wav's. Is this a problem with my software configuration, or is there something else wrong? I have little experience with computer audio. Thanks.
