Fuzzy Blury pictures on a Dell Dimension L733r
Hello, I am new here. I was hoping maybe somebody could help with a problem my brother in law is having with his Dell Dimension L733r.....
All of the pictures on his computer are fuzzy or blury, the text appears to be crisp. I first thought maybe it was a virus, but ran a check, no virus. could it be his graphics card? the computer is a stock computer, running Windows ME with 128 mg of ram.
any help would be greatly appriciated
Richard

What's the resolution and refresh rate of the monitor set to?
Have you tried another monitor to see if it gives the same effect?

Well, if it's below 72 Hz, you'll probably notice it. 60Hz is a killer, it's better to go w/ a smaller resolution and have a higher refresh rate.
A way to test how low you can go w/ the refresh rate is to create a white bitmap (w/ Paint is fine, click 'View/View Bitmap to go full screen) the resolution you have your monitor set to. Look at the image then look above your monitor. If you see flickering, then your refresh rate is too low.
Anyway, try adjust to a lower resolution and raising the refresh rate to see if the images still look fuzzy/blurry.
BTW, what is it set at now?

Just to clarify on the Paint trick, just go into the 'Attributes' and make the Width/Height the same as your current resolution. 800X600, 1024X768, 1280X1024, etc . . .
Hit the 'CTRL+F' or 'View/View Bitmap' to go full screen and look above your monitor. If you see any flickering in the white screen, your refresh rate is set too low. If you can raise it at the resolution you're at, then do so. If you can't, you need to lower your resolution and raise the refresh rate. Try the Paint trick again 'til you get no flicker.
This will save on headaches and I mean that literally.

Also if he has an LCD it has a "native" resolution. If you run it in any other resolution it looks fuzzy. LCDs are all 60hz refresh too.

LCDs don't refresh at all. All the pixels are on all the time.

Well, be that as it may, there is still a setting called "refresh rate" that should be set to 60hz. Happy?

my bro called with similar problem, all pictures were fuzzy/blurry in his browsers.
Turn off any internet accelerators, earthlinks was the culprit here.
