Temp question...

Guys:

I have about 83MB of temp files in the windows temp folder. My guess is that I could safely remove all of them. Are there some files that should stay ther (dlls, for instance) or should I wipe them all clean?

Isn't it true that sometimes some unistall file applications end up there and that if you remove them before going through the uninstall phase that it could effect the registry? Just wanting to make sure, that's all.

I appreciate any feedback. Thanks again.

In general the answer is always "yes" you can remove them....of course I am a chicken so I usualy just ignore them. What you could do is burn em to a cd, lol. Or put em in the recycle bin or cut and paste em from the temp folder to another folder and watch it for a week or so to make sure its ok.

Usually they are just leftover files from program installs...usually not needed anymore.

oops, I just checked and I have 517m of them myself....uggh.

Send a message via AIM to rpertusio
Set the VIEW to [detail], and check the file dates. I usually just delete anything that hasn't been 'modified' in a few days.

Alternately, you could run the CleanUp wizard. Right-click your hard drive -> Properties -> [Disk Cleanup...]

Assuming you are running W2K or XP, just delete them... anything still being used will not allow itself to be deleted... the rest can be removed.
