Media Saying Good Bye to Mr. Beige

The case I currently have has been through 3 major upgrades in the 4 years that I've had it. My most recent upgrade was a new MOBO and a P4. This was about 4 months ago. I was working on different methods of cooling the system down, but the case is just too old, and was originally made for a Pentium II.

I decided it's time for a new case. The computer mods I've seen on this board and others, intrigues me to no end. I think it's something I would really enjoy doing, so I'll be taking the plunge very soon. Since I'm a newbie, I'll probably go with a nice case that has a side window, and then add a few lights and rounded cables, and run a lot of the wiring behind the MOBO. I've seen a lot of good examples and advice posted here. I know this will be the place to come if I have questions. When I get it put together, I'll post some pics here.

Robert

I know how you feel. I've got an Enlight case, first one I ever bought actually ($100) in '98 and it's housed . . .

K6-2/450 on an EPoX ?
K6-2/450 on a GA5AX
T-bird on a KT7-RAID
XP1800+ on an A7M266
XP1600+ on a GA7ZXE (Currently)

Only two screws hold the case on now, the top one is stripped-out beyond repair.

I don't think I'll ever part w/ it. The first part I bought from CompGeeks came w/ an attractive sticker, which I placed on top of this case and it's been there for over 4 years.

EvilRick, sounds like a case I had a few years back. It was an old MITAC desktop non-tower case, that came with a 286. The thing weighed a ton. I called it "The Aircraft Carrier". I went to a 486, and 3 different Pentiums before cashing it in for a tower in 1996. My current beige case will go to my son. It will be a reunion, because he has the P3 that use to be in it

The case just lacks the capacity for installing better cooling, without cutting holes everywhere. I'm not ready for that yet. Right now I'm looking at the Thermaltake series of cases. I plan on placing my order with Newegg by next week.

I'm actually trying to get an olllllllllld computer from my shop...it's like 3 feet tall, and must weigh half a ton... Gonna do something wild to it, or make it into the ultimate sleeper case

Trying to decide on Thermaltake's Lan-Boy case, or Aspire's Alien models. Doing a little more investigating, but plan to place my order with Newegg as soon as tomorrow. Next weekend will be a 3 day weekend for me, so it would be great to get it by then.

whoa, three foot case, half a ton. I WANT IT!

My friend's case is from somewhere around 98' and it housed god knows what up untill he upgraded to an Athlon +1800. A big jump in power. He still uses it to this day with mostly original parts from the original PC configuration.

Recently though he moved and now the powersupply makes funny rattling noises, and the CD-ROM drive chewed a small hole in his Starcraft disk. He's lrested his leg on the face of it it wore of the gold paint. Oh yeah, and one day when he went to look at the inside, there were scorch marks on the inside of the case.
